What is  media in teaching? How many teaching media  types do you kow, explain !

Answare : The learning media functions, among others, to attract students' interest in the learning material presented.  In fact, learning media are often neglected for various reasons.  This actually does not need to happen if every facilitator already has knowledge and skills about learning media. is a media that is adapted to the potential in an area, around schools or in other locations or in the community that can be used as a teaching medium.  Examples of various types of learning media include blackboards, three-dimensional media, reality, and learning resources in the community.

The boards included in this media include whiteboards, bulletin boards, flannel boards, magnetic boards, electric boards, and nail boards.

 · Three-dimensional media including models, mock ups, and dioramas.

 · Reality are real things as they are or are originally.  Examples of real use include teachers bringing rabbits, birds, fish or by taking their students directly to the school garden or school farm.

 · Learning resources in the community, including field trips and camping.

 Photographic images

 Photographic images obtained from several sources, for example from newspapers, paintings, cartoons, illustrations, photos obtained from these various sources can be used by teachers effectively in teaching and learning activities with specific objectives.  There are five types of photographic images that must be considered, including:

 · Photographic images must be sufficient.

 · Images must meet quality artistic requirements.

 · Photographic images for teaching purposes must be large enough and clear.

 · Image validity, namely whether the image is true or not.

 · Capturing children's attention, this tends to the things they observe, for example, animals, trains, airplanes and so on.

 Map and Globe

 The next type of learning media is a map and globe, which serves to present location data.  Such as surface conditions (earth, land, rivers, mountains), and places and directions and distances.  Other advantages of maps and globes, in teaching and learning activities are:

 · Allows students to understand the position of political units, island regions and others.

 · Stimulates student interest in population and geographic influences.

 · Allows students to obtain an overview of immigration and distribution of population, plant and animal life, and the actual shape of the earth.

Why teacher needs media in teaching ?

Answare : Media functions in learning, namely:  As a tool to clarify the message conveyed by the teacher.

 Media also functions for individual learning where the position of the media fully serves the learning needs of students.

 Clarify the message so that it is not overly verbalistic.

 Overcoming the limitations of space, time, energy and senses, creating a passion for learning, direct interaction between students and learning resources.

 Enable children to learn independently according to their visual and auditory talents and abilities.

 Giving the same stimulation, equalizing the experience & causing the same perception.

What are the criteria of good teaching media ?

Answare : Instructional media must be selected based on instructional objectives which would be better if it refers to at least two of the three cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.  This is so that the learning media is in accordance with the direction and does not deviate from the goal.  Learning media are also not only able to influence aspects of student intelligence, but also other aspects, namely attitudes and actions.
