FINAL TEST CCU - SHELLA WIDIA S 1888203007
1. 1. In understanding foreign cultures, someone needs to understand well
the cultures to avoid cultural conflicts. But, many people are failed to
understand the values and customs of foreign cultures. According to your own
idea please explain what do you need to have to understand foreign cultures to
avoid cultural conflicts. (35 points)
First, we also know that we
should understand and have more awareness of these foreign cultures in order to
prevent cultural conflicts while speaking, in this case, I will find out about
foreign cultures via the internet, literature, films, etc. There are so many
media sources that we can use to understand global cultures. But the most
significant thing is that we first have an open-minded mind when we understand
a culture and can appreciate and admire foreign cultures, even though they are
somewhat different from our culture. And while we know a lot about foreign
cultures, we have no open-mindedness and reverence, no cultural conflicts that
will always occur.
2. 2. How do you define your local culture is different from foreign
culture? Do you think local and foreign cultures need to be integrated? Please
provide your reasons (35 points)
There are substantial differences
between my local culture and a foreign culture because, as we know, culture
consists of several elements such as religion, ethnicity, traditions, social,
art, etc. There will definitely be many variations between my local culture and
foreign cultures centered on these elements. Weather variables that impact the
way you dress, for instance. The religious factors that impact your viewpoint.
In parenting, there are several variations as well. I believe that local
culture and international culture need to be combined for some reason, since
different problems can be triggered by the presence of a foreign culture.
Foreign culture becomes good for national culture because, under cultural
personality, foreign culture may provide cultural feedback. However, while
foreign cultures are well embraced and processed, our own local culture must
not be lost. Self-preparation is therefore important in order not to affect
international culture and gradually create an identity crisis.
3. 3. What is stereotype and prejudice? Does it exist in your local culture?
Give examples! (30 points)
Stereotypes are an individual's
views simply based on the views of the group that a person might be categorized
as representing a certain type of person or object. Stereotypes are shortcuts
of thinking that people intuitively conduct to simplify complex situations and
then help determine so easily. Prejudice is another individual's preconceived
view or belief not founded on reason or experience, usually such as a negative
emotional attitude towards members or a particular social group. For example For
example, there are those who think that Batak people are fierce, Minang people
are stingy and Javanese people are plain.
