3.What is stereotype and prejudice? Does it exist in your local culture? Give examples! (30 points)
Answer:
1. So in my opinion, we
can understand a culture in order to equalize the era of globalization or this
without fear and worry that we can eliminate the culture and language itself.
In order for our culture and language to be maintained, we must learn foreign
cultures and cultures at the same time or side by side by loving and learning
the culture and language itself. And the most important thing we can do is
minimize the negative impact due to the arrival of foreign cultures.
2. In my opinion, these two cultures are certainly different, because they have different
origins and regions. My local culture is very traditional, and still uses old
traditions. Meanwhile, many foreign cultures have changed, mixed with the
results of globalization so that they have become modern. And in my opinion,
local and foreign cultures need to be integrated in order to introduce local
cultural traditions to local culture so that local culture can be preserved.
So, it is very necessary to become a complete unity so that there is
cooperation between cultures without changing the original culture itself.
3. Stereotypes
are shortcuts to thinking by humans to simplify complex things and help make
decisions quickly. However, sometimes stereotypes are in the form of positive
and negative prejudices, and sometimes they are used as an excuse to commit
discriminatory acts. Some people consider all forms of stereotypes to be negative.
For example : Batak people are famous for their loud voice volume and high tone
of voice so that there is a stereotype that their character too, loud and
rough. Prejudice means making your own decisions or facts before you know the
relevant facts about the object. Originally the term referred to a judgment
based on a person's race before having clear information on which to base that
judgment. Furthermore, prejudice is also applied to other fields besides race.
So the bottom line becomes an unreasonable attitude that is not influenced by
rational reasons. For example : we consider the religion that other people
profess to be not as good as the religion we profess.
